Radical changes to Fire Safety Law are planned for implementation on the 1st October 2006. These will have major implications for all businesses in England and Wales.
The new law simplifies current fire safety law by consolidating over 100 separate pieces of fire safety legislation. Its intent places a greater focus on fire prevention. Most significantly the new law repeals both the Fire Precautions Act 1971 and the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1999, as amended.
The responsibility for fire safety is placed firmly with the employer or
responsible person
for a building. This person
will now be
required, by law, to assess the fire risk within a building using an
acceptable means of risk assessment.
You are running a business. You don’t want to get side tracked by more forms and health and safety generated risk assessments, required to be legally be ‘seen’ to be completed.
